Too many people play what if's through their minds. They hope for the best but believe the worst. Yet life's experience mostly shows that the worst rarely happens.

We are always thinking. When one continuously thinks inwards and is conscious of it, they start to lose touch of reality. I believe the key is balance. Put thought to action or simply distract one’s self from the consciousness of their thoughts. Also sleep is important – Without sleep and dreams, the mind will go insane. I believe in the discipline of thoughts and the thought process. If you allow the mind to wander or think freely without consequence you will find it hard to escape. It’s easy to get trapped in a pattern of thoughts, and repeat the same process for many thoughts leading to the same outcome for all thoughts. Instead of over thinking, one might try putting their thoughts elsewhere.
Be of good cheer. Do not think of today's failures, but of the success that may come tomorrow. You have set yourselves a difficult task, but you will succeed if you persevere; and you will find a joy in overcoming obstacles. Remember, no effort that we make to attain something beautiful is ever lost. - Helen Keller

Very true Anjing. And for those of us who like to understand things or who naturally want to turn everything upside down and inside out, it's important to know that this is not always helpful. You're right disciplining your thoughts or switching them off is important. Just sometimes hard to do.

I hold a place in my mind where I can travel to at any time to calm the thoughts. It is a place where as a child I could lie on the grass watching the clouds roll by and wait for a fish to bite on my line, usually a length of good cotton with a bent pin for hook. It was great for catching our inland perch. It was also where I dreamed of greater things in the world while I whiled away my time learning from textbooks. I was self taught to the age of 14. But lying on the side of the small creek (3 feet wide and 2 feet deep) under the shade of a paper bark was for me the idyllic spot. Calm, peacefull and surrounded by nature and no 'noise' from people. It is where I go for meditation.
